Home Based Care Level 3 is a foundational healthcare support programme that equips learners with practical skills to provide respectful, compassionate, and effective care in home and community settings. The course focuses on basic care techniques, client support, psychosocial care, household management, and professional conduct — all anchored in TVET-CDACC competency standards for Level 3 qualifications.

Duration & Mode

  • The typical duration for Home Based Care Level 3 is about 3–4 months of classroom and practical skills learning, followed by industry training or attachments in real home care or community health environments.

  • Mode: Full-time (some colleges may offer flexible or blended options).

What you will learn

The TVET CDACC curricula are competency-based and grouped into Basic, Common and Core competencies. Below are representative modules you’ll find in each level (modules and unit titles vary slightly between institutions but follow TVET CDACC occupational standards).

Level 4

• Housekeeping services and safe environment practices

• Client dietary interventions and nutritional support

• Psychosocial care to support emotional and social needs of clients

• Pre-departure process and preparation for home-care visits

• Supervised industry training in home based care settings

Practical training & attachments

Practical experience is a core part of this course. You’ll complete supervised industry attachments, where you apply classroom learning in real community or home care environments. These placements help you practice care planning, client interaction, psychosocial support, and documentation competencies.

Graduates of Home Based Care Level 3 can work in roles such as:

Assessment & Certification

Assessment is competency-based, combining written/oral evaluations and practical demonstrations. After completing all learning units and attachments successfully, you’ll receive a TVET-CDACC Level 3 Certificate, recognised nationally for employment and further study.
